Jamie Godfreyabout this book: Kyle Meyers left his small town in Wisconsin to pursue his dream of becoming a fashion designer. With two suitcases and $100, he begins his journey at design school. Along the way, he makes lasting friendships, meets a porn star, finally hooks up with Glitter Boy, goes on a bevy of awkward dates and works for a string of evil bosses. This offbeat coming of age tale is a valentine to the moments, people, and crazy situations that can only happen in New York.
I wanted to give a voice to the average gay guy, trying to navigate in a world that places so much emphasis on perfection. I also tried to balance between heartbreaking and hysterical. I also balanced stories between the protagonist's personal and professional lives. It's written in a vingette style that makes it a fun, breezy read. Each "memory vingette" is titled with a twist or humor. I think anyone starting out or starting over would relate to this book!
