Paul Keeneabout this book: Between Pieces is Book 2 of author Paul Keene's Running Nowhere trilogy. Conor Kelman's impulsive behavior, addictions and seeing spirits keeps him in a state of unrest. At a young age, he feels weird, different, and searches for something to call his own. In book two, Conor starts high school in a new town, new surroundings.
Conor finds trouble the minute he steps through the doors of the new high school. Like a magnet, he is pulled to new friends that are exact opposite those his eighth grade teacher recommended. He welcomes the fresh start in the new town, but soon realizes the same problems, loneliness, and burning hunger stirring within followed him. His guitar, Gabbie, is all he has to call his own. That, and Red Nolan, the ghost that walked out the door with him the day he found Gabbie in the pawnshop. Conor resents Red Nolan sticking his nose in his business, and watching his every move. He feels like an outsider with his close-knit circle of new friends, but he accepts the feeling. After all, he never fits-in. The new friends carry their own brand of troubles and problems. Conor follows them from one tragedy to another. Whether they like him or not, Conor accepts them as friends and is willing to do anything for their acceptance. No matter what happens, Conor relies on the music he loves. Will Gabbie put Conor on the right track? Life would be easier without Red Nolan's nagging, but that can never happen unless he gives up Gabbie, his one true love.
