Sue Lloydabout this book: Delsey Prodigal is a brutally honest coming of age novel aimed at readers aged sixteen and over.
Two life accounts weave together throughout the pages to create a story which will take you on a vicarious journey with father and son.
Tom Bardsley grows up in a small village in a secure family unit with loving parents, but he wants more. He wants to experience all that life has to offer, and he sets out on a journey which leads him into compromising and sometimes dangerous situations. In true prodigal style, he discovers what is important in life through his folly.
Frank Bardsley's journey is a harrowing one following his diagnosis with terminal cancer. His is a heart-wrenching account of the war which he encounters with his body and the emotional and psychological challenges which accompany the physical symptoms. It makes for tough reading, but it is true to life.
The characters in Delsey Prodigal are believable and solid, and the storyline is littered with humour to balance out the chaos which unfurls.
I started to write this novel over fifteen years ago as a hobby then rediscovered it in Summer 2015. The book benefitted from the passage of time, certainly from a writers point of view. I have always been an avid reader and am thoroughly enjoying the liberation which writing brings.
I have always enjoyed people watching and am fascinated by psychology. I bring both into my writing accompanied by my personal observations of life.
