Book: Awakening Hope. A Developmental, Behavioral, Biological Approach to Codependency Treatment by Mary Crocker Cookcategories: Book, Relationships, Addiction, Attachment Theory, Adrenal Damage, Avoidance, Boundaries, Trauma, Abandonment, Codependency
Mary Crocker Cookabout this book: Awakening Hope was written in an effort to understand why despite years of Al-anon recovery I still became lost in a disastrous relationship in which I lost myself, and then found myself replaced by a bimbo in a tube top. I was so sure I had earned him with my "sacrifices" along the way, and I was incredibly wrong. In order to climb back out of the void I dropped into when he left, I look at the early childhood attachment issues that set the stage for me to choose unavailable partners, and then address my own avoidant codependency patterns. Along the way I needed to look at the behavioral and physical damage caused by years of chronic anxiety in response to my inability to trust my primary relationships. I needed to learn to trust ME first.
Awakening Hope lays out a path to recovery that includes addressing early childhood attachment damage, intrusive and distrustful behaviors developed to "protect" our attachments to others, and the adrenal damage that leads to immune system impairment. Along the way I share my story of recovery and provide tools to strengthen your recovery.
