Book: Found in Translation (Altered Hearts Book 1) by Roger E. Bruner with Kristi Rae Bruner

Roger E. Brunerabout this book: When my daughter was eighteen, she went on a mission trip to Mexico. To do construction. Unfortunately, she failed to read the directions adequately and not only failed to take everything she needed, she also had to pay an excess baggage fee for things she didn't need. When she returned home and gave a report of her trip, including the fact that the area where her group was working was filled with litter, something went off in my head: These few facts could be turned into a teen novel.
Although I wrote the short story version of Found in the Translation (it later lost the "the") first, the full-length novel version was always in the back of my mind.
And that's how Found in Translation came to be. Although it's NOT the story of my daughter's experiences, this novel wouldn't exist unless she'd gone to Mexico.
The title, incidentally, is based on the fact that the protagonist, Kim Hartlinger, finds herself in a remote village without a translator. That plays a huge part in the story, but I won't reveal any spoilers here.
My publisher, Barbour, decided to make Found in Translation the first in a series they decided to call "Altered Hearts," which was to be missions-related. The second book is Lost in Dreams. The third, Overshadowed, remains unpublished. I hope to publish it independently some day.
While this book will be of greatest interest to Christian teens, it has a great deal of adult appeal. It's especially recommended for people preparing to go on their first mission trip. Even though the circumstances I present are fictitious, the need to be flexible and to rely fully on the Lord are true of any mission trip. Anywhere.
