about this book: Captive without Care tells the true story of three chimps in captivity, the lives they have led and how they needed help. It is a tale of friendship between human and our closest living relatives of the animal world.

The reader will feel as though they know the chimps and their charcters as the story unfolds. The book goes on to detail the struggles the author was faced with in trying to gain help for the chimps whilst at the same time trying to safeguard against the treatment they were receiving.

The book reaches its ending with the author having to say goodbye to the chimps he has grown so fond of in order to try and help them further.

With many photographs, it is a story that will make you smile, perhaps shed a tear but above all hopefully make you care.

I decided to write this book after embarking in voluntary work at a primate park and meeting three chimps that I became very attached to and formed a close bond with. The chimps and other animals I met along the way were caught in a situation where they needed help. My reason for writing the book was to hopefully raise awareness of the issues described within and highlight the reasons why things need to change. The three chimps I met inspired me to write it to try and help them and others like them.

I am a qualified animal behaviourist and have worked with primates for over 10 years.

Some of the events described in the book were extremely hard to write about as they concerned animals I had worked with every day and come to know and love. To write about those individuals I became so fond of unearthed memories I would have perhaps kept buried.

This is not just a book for animal lovers but a book for anybody that likes a true story and can relate to the struggles you are sometimes faced with when going through a difficult time. If you care please read.
