Christine Corretti about this book: "A Father's Wish: the Tale of King Big Bear the Fat" is a story that is filled with endearing portrayals of animals, including cats, wolves, and a very adorable bear king. It portrays deep emotions the author, Christine Corretti, believes animals feel for each other, especially for their offspring. The storyline is a bit suspenseful, and the mystery that unfolds will not be easy for children to solve. King Big Bear and his comrades must save his greatest treasure and resolve the conundrum of the old wizard's role in the fate of that treasure. The welfare of the king's kingdom is also at stake here.
This story, which focuses on animal rights, is for children and young adults. Animal lovers, animal rights activists and environmentalists will love this book, as will those who enjoy art, original stories, fairy tales. All the drawings in the book were made by the author.
I chose to write a story about animal rights when I became most concerned about the fact that wolves in the U.S. are no longer protected under the Endangered Species Act, and are now being slaughtered by the hundreds. I alert my readers to this situation at the back of my book, where there is also a list of key wolf rescue centers in the U.S. and Canada which readers can support.
