Jenny Bakerabout this book: Have you ever wondered what it would be like to carry your home with you wherever you go? Not everyone thinks it's a good idea and in Sammie Snail Does Not Want a Shell you will meet a character who's bursting to tell you why.
This remarkable children's book is illustrated exquisitely and written with love, care and a mother's understanding. It tells the tale of Sammie, the snail who resents having to live underneath a shell and wishes he could find a way to get rid of it. To you and I and to Sammie's friend Pat, a snail is not a snail without his beautiful, intricately designed shell, but our grumpy friend refuses to agree. He thinks it is heavy, hot and unwieldy and would give his right antenna to escape from its confines... is there anything that could change his mind?
As Sammie grumbles his way to the riverside to find some shade in the summer sunshine, he comes across an unexpected situation. Will he learn a valuable lesson? Can Sammie ever come to appreciate that which he thinks of as a burden and a bore, or will his complaining get him into hotter water than he can handle? One thing's for sure: by the end of this charming and whimsical tale, both Sammie and the reader will have a very different perspective.
