David Blatchfordabout this book: Although he is a magical cat sometimes Mr Tomkins likes to have a day or two off, a bit like ordinary cats or people. One of his favourite places to go is called Hay on Why? Nobody really knows WHY the river is called the River Wye? But there it is.
This year he went to the literary festival there which is his very favourite literary festival in all the world. This year he magicked up a rainproof bubble to keep his freshly shampooed fur from becoming wet with all the rain that was falling. The weather had decided to give summer a miss and jump straight to autumn.
Mr Tomkins was inside his bubble and therefore invisible. Billy the Laughing bucket wasn't, invisible that is. He had been given a couple of coats of special rust proof paint and the fumes had made him a bit woozy, a bit like a spider who has been suddenly whooshed down the plughole just as he was planning what to watch on TV for the evening. Being Billy he was billying around the festival site doing what he called his special unrain dance: it wasn't working.
The grown ups were beginning to get grumpy as grown ups often do when it gets a bit rainy...
