Emma J. Homesabout this book: The Peridot Pendant is about a young girl's search to unravel the mystery surrounding the sudden disappearance of her mother. When Fabrina discovers her mother's necklace, strange happenings give clues to her whereabouts, and what Fabrina can do to help. As the story unfolds, Fabrina comes to rely more and more on her friends Harry and Vicky, and her oddly perceptive cat, Mr Whiskers.
A fast-paced fantasy where stories from long ago are entwined with present, The Peridot Pendant is a tale of imagination written for children aged around nine to twelve years.
While I was writing, I read a lot of fairy and folk tales from around the world, and was also inspired by reading some very interesting articles about the evolution and meaning of fairy tales. One website for example was the Endicott Studio.
However the story for The Peridot Pendant was drawn straight from my imagination, with just a few details taken from old folk story traditions.
Stories have always been an important part of my life. I've loved reading from a young age. I especially enjoyed hearing my mother, author Ruth Homes, read to me from one of her books. My dad and grandparents were also wonderful story tellers.
I hope that readers enjoy 'The Peridot Pendant' as much as I have loved writing it.
The cover design, was created by the talented Frank Filippi. I think it looks great, and captures an important moment in the story, when Mr Whiskers leads Fabrina to the pendant.
