Paul G Dayabout this book: The Misadventures of Red Bear is the first story I wrote specifically for the Children's Fiction market. I would describe Red Bear as the Forrest Gump of Bear World. Although he is just a simple little bear, he manages to do some pretty extraordinary things. As with the Little Green Hen, there is a fair bit of myself in this character. Growing up in a large family was not easy and there were many times I felt insecure, unloved, unwanted and many times I felt I was blamed unfairly for things that happened. I put all of this into these stories, so when you read them, you are reading about me.
Red Bear is clumsy, silly and shy and yet he manages to meet every challenge with dignity and courage. He will meet some interesting and endearing characters along the way in his adventure, such as The Indian Chief "Red Bottom", as well as numerous others. They will all be impressed by Red Bear's skills and taken in by his kind heart.
The cover has gone through several incarnations and I eventually settled on the style you see with the photo of Red Bear in action (Taken by yours truly and manipulated using Picnik) and the paw prints in the background.
This book represents a very personal journey for me and I am delighted to present my stories of Red Bear to you all. These stories are designed to be read to young children and be read by older children. They are written in rhyming verse in an easy style which flows effortlessly from one verse to the other, whilst never losing the narrative voice. I hope you enjoy The Misadventures of Red Bear.
