Chris Leeabout this book: If you thought the card game bridge was only for elderly gentlemen and the blue rinse brigade on world cruises, think again. Bridge is now enjoying a surge in popularity among young people and is becoming THE game to play as an antidote to endless finger-twitching computer games. It's also one of the most socially enjoyable games there is. All you need is a deck of cards, a flat surface (the floor of your apartment will do) a few cans of beer or a bottle of wine, and three friends - or potential friends. I guarantee that if these people were just acquaintances at the start of the game, they'll be friends by the end.
I learnt from friends at college and have been grateful that I did ever since. It's opened doors that seemed firmly closed before. Not only that, it's a really great game that's easy to learn and exercises the mind as little or as much as you want it to. But most importantly, it's fun.
My book is a beginners guide that assumes no prior knowledge and leads you gently through the learning process. It's aimed at younger people who want to have fun in a social setting (and maybe impress others with their skill). Bridge certainly did me no harm; it helped me turn my bridge partner into my lifetime partner!
The book can be used with a free Kindle reading app on just about any device including smartphones, Kindles and tablets. It's also designed to be used during play, where you can quickly tap the screen and get advice on what to bid. ("Bidding" is a key part of the game; the book explains it in simple terms.)
Do give it a whirl. You won't regret it.
