Noreen E Taranto about this book: I'm a breast cancer SURVIVOR. What does that mean? It means, to me, that I was diagnosed with this life threatening disease, endured treatment, battled psychological and physical side effects of said treatment, sustained post treatment war wounds, and prevailed. I SURVIVED breast cancer then wrote a book about it 7 years later. I consider myself not a dandelion in the lawn of life, but rather a perennial rose. My journey taught me to drink in each sunrise and exhale with each sunset. I'm now an emissary for awareness and am convinced that is why I was one of the 1 in 8 women picked to bear the brunt of this global epidemic. Once I decided to embark on this journalistic challenge, the title was never in question. Cancer isn't very picky. It just picks and I happened to get chosen but never once asked 'why me?'. That was pointless. Why not me? My parents had an apple tree that my family had gifted them. When I was writing my keynote speech for the Relay for Life in our town in 2007 I thought of that tree and the similarities between cancer patients and an apple. We are thick skinned with a strong core. As our skin is slowly peeled, and we are exposed, the seeds of new growth are ready to spread. I spend pensive moments of each day exploring exciting ways to heighten awareness and louden voices. It's my hope that my readers will relate to my story or that it may resonate with a loved one, a friend, a coworker, a neighbor etc. that has a similar hurdle they need to get over. I wrote with blatant honesty. Everything about my story happened and is the essence of me.
