Book: BEX, DRUGS & ROCK 'n' ROLL by Cristian Mathesoncategories: Book, Humour, Rock and Roll, Drugs, Psychedelic, Comedy, Biography
Cristian Mathesonabout this book: This is a cocktail of a book that arcs through my highlights and low points from my childhood to the first date with my first wife. It is episodic in the manner of David Sedaris's stories. It's like a more family oriented version of John Birmingham's He Died with a Falafel, or a Gen-x version of Clive James's Unreliable Memoirs.
This book was inspired by the birth of my first child. I wanted to chronicle my Peter Pan years so my children could have the truth in this time capsule otherwise I could see me water down these stories when they were finally old enough to hear them.
The book took a year to write and was a joy to create, and I amused myself with it very much. It's a shaggy dog story in parts and I'm often the butt of the jokes, but if it makes you giggle then I've done my job.
If there's any moral to the book it's simple that we were all young once, and it's good to be honest about your roots and to remember them.
