Jenny Gillabout this book: Fisherman's Dream is book number four in the series Southhill Sagas, set in leafy Surrey to the south of London.
It is a story of a couple, told over about three decades. Martin is a reserved self contained man who loves fishing. Cilla is also reserved, enjoying reading and classical music but she remembers happy childhood occasions fishing with her father. This creates an immediate bond between them and a relationship develops leading to marriage although Martin is not especially interested in the physical side.
After they have been married some time Martin confides in Cilla that his dream has always been to have a full service fishing tackle shop. Somehow they get it together and open the shop which they call Fisherman's Dream. Cilla marvels at the change in Martin who is now a happy fulfilled man.
Although they didn't plan to not have a family it just didn't happen - first they were setting up the business thenCilla's father was ill and needed her attention but they are happy as they are.
Suddenly Cilla's life changes totally - Martin is killed in an accident on the motorway. Cilla's whole life seems to fall apart. Not only that but there was a passenger in the car with him, unbeknown to Cilla. What does it all mean and where does she go from here? And almost above all, what doe she do with the shop, the business that Martin so loved?
This is Baby Boomer women's fiction which will probably appeal mainly to women in that age range.
The name of the business and indeed the name of the book is after a shop, also a full service fishing tackle shop which my husband and I had in South Africa over thirty years ago. Sadly the shop is no more but in my book its name lives on.
