Raymond Boyd Dunnabout this book: "Carly and Sam…Will and Effie" (formerly 'Beyond Budgere') is the third book in the Pearson/Rickards Trilogy.
It begins with Carly Pearson, whose birth and childhood are described in "An Australian Ranch" and who is now eighteen years old, dealing with an unwanted suitor. It delves deeper into the relationship between Carly and Sam, and their adventures. Carly's sister Effie and Will Rickards are lifelong friends whose future had more or less been taken for granted until the call of adventure led him into the blood-letting which was the Boer War.
Here again, after writing the second book of the Trilogy, the author wanted to keep writing, and this book completed a Trilogy. Much of the action takes place in the Darling Downs area of South Queensland, with forays into the capital city of Brisbane and the gold-mining town of Paradise. (Paradise eventually became a ghost town, and now lies beneath the waters of Paradise Lake, which was formed by the construction of the Paradise Dam.)
