Steve S Ryan about this book: I am a former A-Fib patient, cured in 1998. So grateful for my return to health, in 2002 I started the non-profit, patient education website: 'Atrial Fibrillation: Resources for Patients' (A-Fib.com), to offer unbiased, up-to-date information all written in plain language for the non-medical reader. Tens of thousands visit my site every month. Cardiologists and other healthcare professionals recommend my site to their A-Fib patients.
After over ten years of researching, writing and publishing about A-Fib, I wrote this book -- just the essentials -- for patients and their families who want to look beyond the common drug therapies that only manage the disease, but do not cure it. Through the book patients learn how to research their best treatment options and the steps to find the right doctor for their type of A-Fib and treatment goals. This book gives patients hope and empowers them to develop a plan for finding their A-Fib cure or best outcome.
The Foreword is written by Dr. Walter Kerwin, MD, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and the Introduction is written by Dr. Steven C. Hao, MD, California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, both leaders in the treatment of A-Fib.
I am not a medical doctor, and only strive to help patients seek and find the best medical treatment for their type of A-Fib. I earned my Ph.D. in Educational Communications from the Ohio State University, and for many years taught TV and film courses at the college level. I have dedicated myself to helping others so they don't have to go through the frustration, depression, and extensive research like I did to find my cure. I work every day as an advocate for patients with Atrial Fibrillation.
