Vicky S Kaseorgabout this book: In this 4th book of the best selling Burton's Farm Series, I took on a very serious subject. I have always been concerned with the sanctity of life- both of people and animals. All abuse disturbs me deeply.
The abuse of the Tennessee Walking Horse in producing the flashy "high lick" gait that wins horse shows has been well documented. Nonetheless, despite legislation aimed at eradicating it decades ago, it persists.
This book explores the early origins of the abusive practice known as "soring." The same cast of characters introduced in earlier books are back, along with a few villains in the new book.
Each book in the series has a central message or theme. In Book 4, the core message is: when we are faced with an impossible situation which we feel powerless to change, do we do nothing, or risk whatever it takes to save innocent victims? it is a story of courage in the face of overwhelming circumstances.
And of course, our old friend Gidget the crazy horse is back and the ongoing issue of the heroine's love of a horse she cannot have.
