Book: Swamp Fox (Interesting Characters of the American Revolution) by Gene Ligotti

Gene Ligottiabout this book: Swamp Fox is the second in the trilogy of interesting characters of the American Revolution. Francis Marion, a lawyer and plantation owner in South Carolina, was the only officer left in the south to keep the young American Revolution intact after the defeat of Charles Town (now Charleston).
Hidden in the swamps he gathered a small band of patriots together and attacked the British using guerrilla tactics. He would then escape into the deep and mysterious Carolina swamps. Hence the name given to him by the British Army. There is fast moving action throughout the book. Not a young man and hindered by a limp, he succeeds in keeping the south safe for the Americans. He meets Light Horse Harry Lee (grandfather of Robert E. Lee) and they have many successful battles working together.
Southern school teachers are fond of the book and use it in the classes. These three novels present history as a story and not from a dry research book.
