Ben Westbrookabout this book: The idea for this story came from my love of fishing when I was about the age of Shane and Jason--the two best friends you'll meet when you're introduced at the beginning of the story. I was around ten or eleven when a buddy of mine and I would ride our bicycles about two-and-half miles to go fishing on Sibley Lake. During the school year we made the trek every Saturday when weather permitted. When school was out for the summer, we were at the lake every day of the week, except Sundays.
This story is about one of our many fishing trips. Only in this telling, there are many revisions to the actual truth. Our trips were not nearly this exciting nor as dangerous. But the modifications seem to make the story a little more interesting and certainly more intense. These changes also allow some of the characters to demonstrate heroism and bravery that our rather pedestrian trips to the lake didn't require. Perhaps the biggest hero in Old Joe's Cave turns out to be my courageous little sister.
I hope you enjoy the story. I certainly enjoyed writing it.
