Peter Clenottabout this book: Chiku Flynn wasn't raised to be human. She was born in the Congolese rainforest to two anthropologists studying the wild chimpanzees of the Maiku National Park. For the first eleven years of her life, Chiku is as much chimp as human. She nests with the chimpanzees, grooms with them and has no second thoughts about slurping termites or ants off of a twig tool. Everything changes when her mother is killed. Then Chiku is sent back to the States where she grows into a maladjusted teenager prescribed pills for depression, hyperactivity, mood disorder, defiance.
Then her father disappears, and Chiku, now sixteen, must return to the jungle to find her true self. Murder awaits. Civil War. Assassins. An environment endangered by greed and bloodshed, and the only thing that stands between her chimpanzee family and displacement and death is a sixteen-year-old head case. In Swahili, Chiku means chatterbox, but to the chimpanzees of the jungle, with whom she can communicate using sign language, she is known simply as Talk Talk.
