Gary Goldsteinabout this book: "Jew in Jail" is the remarkable true story of the nearly six years I spent incarcerated in various prisons that comprise the New York State Department of Correctional Services, upon my plea of guilty, to three counts of Robbery in The Second Degree, which were a direct result of my past addictions to alcohol, drugs and gambling.
I wrote my book as I was doing my time with full confidence knowing that, while the public is always interested in prison books, they would be even more captivated to learn what it was like for a Jewish man - an alcoholic, drug addict and compulsive gambler – to do time as a minority behind bars.
"Jew in Jail" was written to honor my beloved late father, Irving Goldstein, who sadly and unexpectedly passed away from the effects of lung cancer and emphysema while I was still on Rikers Island waiting to be sent to an upstate New York prison.
I also wrote it in order to provide insights into not only how the prison system in New York State is run, but also to show that the disease of addiction can be put into remission, even under the most difficult circumstances imaginable.
In this regard, my book is targeted to anyone who has ever suffered from an addiction of any sort, has a family member, loved one, or co-worker experiencing the same, or to anyone who has ever been low on self-esteem.
In addition, my book is tailored to any person who isn't living a law-abiding life and doesn't think prison is where he or she can ever end up when such a person becomes desperate.
