It is a unique self-help, inspirational book because it applies the teachings of Napoleon Hill and others motivational writers about having a definite purpose and profiting from failure without providing too many checklists. It combines poetry, prose, family history, disability and law to show how a person with severe physical, racial, social, educational and economic limitations succeeded, failed and profited from failure.
The book tells the tale of attorney Theodore Arthur Pinnock. Mr. Pinnock was born on October 19, 1962 in Hartford, Connecticut - poor, Black and with cerebral palsy. In 1970 he was placed into a long-term facility for the disabled and in 2011 he resigned from the practice of law. This book gives a glimpse into how Mr. Pinnock emerged from no where to become the "infamous Attorney Pinnock." The California State Bar investigated Mr. Pinnock for eight years because he practiced, fearlessly, disability rights law. This book sheds light on how Mr. Pinnock's fearlessness was developed in the institution and from his family. This fearlessness propelled him from the bottom to the top and kept him from giving up during his fall. Much of life is about rising from the bottom and rising from the fall. Most people never rise from the bottom, and if they do, they never rise from the fall. Mr. Pinnock's fall was caused by his own failures and trusting the wrong people. Rising from a fall is about profiting from failures and seeing all the wonderful lessons gained from the fall.
