Jacques Antoine about this book: I wrote about Emily Kane because the idea of a woman who could fight intrigued me. She would have obvious physical disadvantages compared to most male assailants she would come up against. It occurred to me that she would have certain advantages as well, like the element of surprise, since larger men might not expect her to be as tough as she turns out to be. What if she also has what I might call a "spiritual" advantage? She may turn out to be fiercer, or as she might put it, more evil than most men, more wiling to injure or even kill. I pursued this line of thought as the series expanded "under my pen," so to speak.
Girl Fights Back introduces us to Emily as a High School student thrust into dangerous situations by circumstances beyond her control. She responds hesitantly at first, but with growing confidence as she begins to feel her inner strength. In later books in the series, the shadowy forces arrayed against her take different forms, but their persistence suggests that there is something special about Emily. What isn't clear is whether it's something good or something unspeakably evil--at least that's how the puzzle of her life presents itself to Emily.
The Emily Kane Adventures follow Miss Kane through High School and around the world -- to Kyoto and New Zealand, to Kamchatka and Seoul, to Kathmandu and Annapolis. In Book #5, Girl Takes The Oath, she enrolls in the US Naval Academy only to have covert operatives pursue her there. The next book in the series, #6, Girl Rides The Wind, finds her in the South China Sea, a US Marine Helicopter pilot, her mission is to track terrorists threatening the most valuable sea lanes in the world. But someone, or something, is tracking her, too. It should be available this summer.
