James Clayton Rogersabout this book: Half a century has passed since the Quebec Liberation Front seared world headlines with bombings and assassinations. For a time it seemed to the Federal authorities that the entire province would rise up in armed rebellion. Martial law and mass imprisonment subdued the ringleaders, but memories and effects still linger. This is gradually made apparent to Dr. Paul Racine when a Canadian is admitted to his hospital for a heart transplant. A cardiothoracic surgeon, he is maneuvered by the chief of his division into putting the man at the top of the donor-receiver list, ahead of more seriously ill patients. As the man's identity is slowly revealed, Dr. Racine finds himself becoming embroiled in a dangerous game of cat and mouse between the recipient and a rogue Mountie who has come south to Virginia in search of this missing FLQ treasury. Complicating the situation is his wife, who seems to know something about the stranger which she refuses to divulge to her husband. She, too, becomes trapped when they are kidnapped and taken to Montreal, where the truth is revealed.
