Frequently Asked Questions and Answers

Q: How can I get support for this software?
A: Since we give away this software for free we can't offer any other support than the information on this page.

Q: I'm getting the following error: To run this application you first must install one of the following versions of the .NET Framework
A: You need to install .NET Framework 3.5: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=21

Q: Can I run eBook Pro on MACs?
A: eBook Pro runs on Windows only.

Q: Book Info tab is missing
A: Book Info section has been merged with Submit section in order to improve usability. All fields and buttons are now present under Submit section

Q: After opening eBook Pro my books are not shown
A: You need to save your project upon closing the software or opening another project. Opening eBook Pro also requires to manually select whether to create a new project or load an existing project saved previously.

Q: Kindle Previewer is showing all kinds of warnings
A: You can ignore most of the Kindle Previewer warnings. Another way of previewing your book is to actually submit it as Draft and preview it on Amazon. Here are the steps:

step 1 - Add the book for submission on Submit tab (press Add button and fill all required fields)
step 2 - Select "Submit as draft" at the bottom and then press Start
step 3 - You can preview your book at http://kdp.amazon.com by logging in with your account, clicking your book and pressing Preview at the bottom
step 4 - You can delete the book from your Dashboard if it doesn't look as expected or press Publish to go ahead for Amazon review

Q: How can I edit the Table of Contents Chapters, Subchapters and Chapter Title styles?
A: You can do that whenever you edit a chapter in Chapter Editor. Open a chapter to edit, in styles top section press the small arrow which will open Modify Style dialog. Select one of the following styles:

(a) TOC is for Table of Contents chapters
(b) TOCsub is a subchapter in Table of Contents
(c) ChapterTitle is the actual chapter title inside the book

After editing each style make sure you press OK to save it. You have to repeat the process for each style in order to get them all saved.

Q: How can I create a new style?
A: You can do that whenever you edit a chapter in Chapter Editor. Open a chapter to edit, in styles top section press the Add Style button which will open Modify Style dialog. Select the required font and spacing and press OK.

Q: How can I add a cover image?
A: The covers are added separately on the submission process. If your book is ready for submission you can get to Submit tab, press Add and fill all required fields. Here you have to select the book .doc file and the cover image. You can also check the "Embed Cover in Book" to have the cover image as first page of your book automatically.

Q: What is "Edit book in Amazon instead of submitting new"?
A: In order to allow modifications of your already submitted books you can use this option to avoid submitting your books as a separate entry (just edit existing submissions). This works only if your current books selected for submission in this current project were submitted with eBook Pro.

Q: What is "Submit the books in Draft mode"?
A: This option allows just adding your books to Kindle Dashboard without actually submit it for Amazon staff review. The option is useful for previewing the book with the online previewer and also double check the data at http://kdp.amazon.com

Q: I forgot to save my project as .kpf file and I can not load it. All I have is a .doc file
A: Unfortunately you have to recreate the book as a new project. You have to always save your project as .kpf file. If you forget to do it you will be asked upon closing the software. The .doc file is just a final compiled version of your book, not the actual project file. Since you already have the book written, just create a new book and add chapter by chapter with copy/pasting the content from your existing Word file.

Q: I want to modify the page orientation to landscape
A: From the top menu select Page Layout section and from the Orientation button select Landscape.

Q: Can I use eBook Pro to create an illustration book?
A: Yes you can, the editor works similar to Microsoft Word and you can insert pictures filling a page.

Q: What is the ideal size for my cover image?
A: Requirements for the size of your cover art have an ideal height/width ration of 1.6, this means:

A minimum of 625 pixels on the shortest side and 1000 pixels on the longest side For best quality, your image would be 1563 pixels on the shortest side and 2500 pixels on the longest side

Q: What are the formats accepted as cover images?
A: eBook Pro accepts two types of files for cover images:
JPEG, or .jpeg
TIFF, or .tif(f)

Q: I'm getting "Protected View" mode when opening the resulting doc file with Microsoft Word
A:Don't worry about that warning, Microsoft Word seems to show it for all the files that were not created with it. Details about this:
